We have finally reached the climax of Euro 2016 and I am so glad to be bringing you this tip from Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris where there is a lovely relaxed atmosphere as fans prepare for the final on Sunday. Young artists are relaxing and drawing whilst students are lying around and cooking, although I am not quite sure what…

Portugal v France. Of course we expected France to be in the final but Portugal on the other hand has seen an outburst of objection, however, we must praise them for their efforts and congratulate them. So, what should the Portuguese expect from the French? Given that this is the final it could be anything. Although the French overcame their toughest test by beating Germany in the semis, there is no guarantee that they will beat Portugal. This is, as you would expect from most finals, indeed tough to predict. Portugal manager Fernando Santos seems to have found a formula which has worked for them and his team stick to it diligently.

What recent finals in major tournaments have in common is the lack of potency. At the World Cup 2010 it took a goal in extra time by Andres Iniesta for Spain to win the World Cup whilst at Euro 2012 it just so happened that the Italians turned up completely burnt-out, offering very little resistance to their Spanish opponents. At the World Cup 2014 it was another extra time goal, this time by Mario Gotze, which handed the trophy to Germany. Finally in the 2016 Copa America final we saw a goalless draw in the match between Argentina and Chile (Chile winning on penalties).

Much of this match will depend on who scores the first goal, whether this is in normal time or not is another matter. For this fixture, the perfect bet for me is markets involving ‘Under X goals’ during the game, however, the ‘Under 2.5 goals’ bet offers little value so I would go with ‘Under 1.5 Goals’ at 13/8. It is unlikely that there will be more than one goal in this final, but, who will score I think is too difficult to predict in a game of this magnitude.
