These two teams were deeply involved in the relegation battle a couple of months ago, however, Notts County’s excellent run a few weeks back means they are now out of the mix. Newport, on the other hand, are still in the battle but are two points clear and know a win here will see them stay up.

Newport may have lost their last match at Carlisle United, however, they had won four of their five matches prior to that, hence why they have a great chance of surviving on Saturday.

As you would expect for a team struggling at the bottom of the table, The Exiles have not been very good in either box this season with just 49 goals scored and 72 conceded in 45 games. However, they have improved a lot at the back recently with each of those aforementioned four wins coming complete with a clean sheet. They may have only scored once in each of those matches but, with a now solid foundation, that has been enough to pick up points. Although the defence has been much-improved, it is also worth noting that Newport have scored in each of their last 11 league games.

Mike Flynn’s men have been absolutely fantastic at home in recent weeks with no defeats in their last four, winning their last three. They have only scored four goals in those last four matches, however, they have also kept three clean sheets. This brilliant record at Rodney Parade will given Newport massive hope going into Sunday’s match.

Since Kevin Nolan’s arrival at the club, Notts County have managed to pull themselves well away from the relegation spots and they are now 13 points clear of the drop-zone. Given that the job is now done, will the flip-flops be on? However, they are still the third-most in-form team in the division with 16 points taken from their last eight.

County have been very good in the final third in recent weeks having scored in each of their last ten matches. However, their defensive record throughout the entire campaign has been woeful with their Goals Against statistic reading a damming 74 – the joint-second-worst in the division – whilst they have also kept just one clean sheet in their last six.

The Magpies’ improved home form under Nolan has been the main reason for their turnaround, however, they still have problems on their travels with just one point taken from a possible six in their last two and just two wins from their last six matches away from Meadow Lane. Having said that, they have still managed to score in each of their last five away games.

Although Notts County are in good form, there will no doubt be a bit of complacency on their part. Newport on the other hand have something to fight for and, given their great home record in recent times, I am backing them here at a profitable 21/20.
