16:00 Wolverhampton – Cappananty Con @ 4/1

The 16:00 at Wolverhampton on Thursday afternoon has the potential to be a competitive little contest; however, the improving Cappananty Con has impressed in recent weeks and looks a good bet to go one better than he did last time out.

Dean Ivory’s three-year-old appears to be getting the hang of things on the all-weather at a rapid rate having followed up his relatively comfortable C&D win with a fast-finishing 2nd over this trip at Lingfield in February. That performance last time out was certainly eye-catching, and he probably would’ve got his head in front had he not been waited with for an age.

In what was a tougher contest, on paper at least, the three-year-old traveled sweetly before staying on to take a close-up second behind a horse rated 2lb higher than anything in here. What’s more, he beat a rival who’s since gone on to win a Class 3 event off a mark of 76. With this in mind, you’d have to think that a mere repeat, never mind further improvement, would see him finish right up there at the business end of this event.

Of the others, Lord Cooper is expected to go well as he goes in search of his hat-trick, but this race is likely to demand a fair bit more than the type of Class 6 races that he’s been winning of late. Arzaak is another who should go reasonably well, but he was comfortably beaten by the selection last time out and looks highly unlikely to reverse the placings, while Derek Duval would need to come on a considerable amount to get his head in front.

All in all, Cappananty Con appears to have been found a nice opening by his trainer and is fancied to continue on the up. A price of 4/1 is well worth taking advantage of.
