Company Review

3/5

Founded in Vienna, Austria, Interwetten initially offered over the phone sports betting between 1990-1997. However, as the popularity of the internet grew, Interwetten, in 1997, became only the second company in the world to offer an online betting product behind Intertops.

They expanded their portfolio in 2004 to offering casino games, before launching a skill games platform in 2006.

While 2020 was a year to forget for most, Interwetten who pride themselves on “Pioneering in online sports betting” celebrated 30 years in business.

Interwetten’s headquarters now resides in Gzira, Malta, where they are also licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority for sports betting, games, and casino.

Interwetten was also licensed in Spain in 2012 by DGOJ to offer sports betting and casino games as well as being licensed to offer sports betting in the state of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany in December 2020. One month later they were also authorised to offer casino games.

Interwetten’s website is available in nine languages – English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish, Croatian, Greek, and Italian.

They have an affiliate program where you can earn up to 35% share of the net profit of all their products, with dedicated affiliate support and detailed real-time statistics. If that interests you, you can join in www.interwetten.com.

Interwetten’s highest-profile football shirt sponsorships came from Spain’s La Liga, firstly between 2008 until 2011 when they sponsored Espanyol before the Sevilla sported the Interwetten logo on the front of their shirts for the next two years.

However, Interwetten also holds the amazing distinction of not only sponsoring a team but also being named after them as Austrian Second Division side SC Unterseibenbrunn became SC Interwetten.com from 2001 to 2004.

Lately, the Interwetten logo can be found on the front of the team dugouts at German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg and around the stadium of Hoffenheim, while as of this season they also sponsor the Greek Super League further establishing their market in Greece.

Due to licensing restrictions, Interwetten does not open accounts for residents of the United Kingdom.

Design

The design of the site is quite basic. There is the yellow background at the top of the page and yellow also used sparingly throughout the rest of the pages which clearly establishes you are betting with Interwetten.

However, if the basic nature of the website does not put you off there are some really user-friendly features to Interwetten’s website.

Firstly, with the list of sports offered by Interwetten down the left of the screen, you can individually click Boxing, for example, then Football or Australian Rules Football and the centre of the page will keep building with these sports meaning you do not have to move from one page to the next, it is all there for you on the same page, making it easy to build accumulator bets on various sports without having to reload pages.

Favourite backers will absolutely love the “odds under 2.00” feature. Clicking into this gives you all football matches where the favourite is even money or lower to win. You can organise the matches in order of time of play or odds, you can filter the games from those less than an hour away or up to 72 hours away, you can even filter the games to those featuring heavier favourites such as 3/4, 1/2 or 1/4.

There is also the last-minute feature where if you are looking to bet on something quickly this will show you all events about to start making those betting opportunities easy to find.

The site overall is easy to understand and navigate, there is no clutter to speak of, although the way the sports are ordered could be confusing for some.

There is also a mobile version of the site which looks very similar to the web version, it is, of course, more condensed being on a phone.

The website is easy to find at interwetten.com.

Services

Interwetten offers the usual sports to bet on such as Football, Boxing, Tennis, Snooker as well as more obscure sports like Floorball and even Chess.

They have a higher concentration of winter sports than many other sites, also offering betting on Biathlon, Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing and Ski Jumping. Interwetten also offers extensive betting coverage of eSports, having separate categories outlined on the main page.

However, what may disappoint UK bettors is that there is no betting offered on Horse Racing.

Interwetten also offers over 1000 casino games, from Slots to Blackjack to Poker. They also even offer Scratch Card games.

Looking at two top Football matches across Europe recently in comparison to some of the top bookmakers, Interwetten offered the best price about Bayern Munich in their game against Hertha Berlin, while offering the same odds about the draw.

In the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Manchester City, Interwetten also offered the best price on Man City by a considerable margin, while also staying competitive on Liverpool’s odds to win. Of course, with these prices something had to give, the draw price was considerably lower. However, Interwetten’s margin on this game of just 4.28% was considerably lower than the 5.24% offered by Bet365 and 5.97% offered by Skybet at the time of writing.

In fact, looking across the whole of match week 23 in the Premier League, Interwetten’s average pre-match margin sat at between 4-5.5%.

Live

There is less of an offering on live betting here than Bet365 with betting offered by Interwetten on 22 live events compared to Bet365’s 67 on Wednesday 3rd February. However, all of the main football matches are covered such as the Premier League, with many markets offered live, such as correct scores and the over/under goals markets, while there is also a focus on eSports, Ice Hockey and Tennis.

If you are a fan of watching the action while you bet, unfortunately, Interwetten does not offer live streaming on any sports.

Freebies, bonuses and promotions

Interwetten does offer a welcome bonus of 100% up to €100. This is not advertised on their main page, however, with a simple Google search you can find the page detailing the bonus details and how to claim.

On Interwetten’s bonus regulations though you do seem to have to jump through a few hoops to benefit from the full €100 bonus, however, there are also a couple of different ways to do this which provides the bettor with flexibility.

If you are looking to just bet on the Sportsbook you must stake your deposit five times before you can unlock the bonus.

If you are betting on casino only you must stake your deposit amount 30 times, however, different games are weighted differently percentage-wise.

Or if you like to use both the sportsbook and the casino you can stake your deposit across both. The exact proportions of this are detailed in the above link under bonus regulations.

Interwetten also advertised a loyalty bonus of 50% up to €400 on their main page. When you click this, you will find this is for casino betting only, and for a limited time. There are also a host of promotions for their casino games which can be found here.

Customer Support

Interwetten provides email support and does provide a phone number, however, this is a Maltese number. Disappointingly for some who may want their issue resolved right away, there is no live chat option.

There is a screen where you can type your message and that gets sent to Interwetten and they will respond to you by email, or you can take their email address listed to the right and use your email app to email them directly if you wish.

When the message option is used a response via email was received between 5-10 minutes later so in the grand scheme of things this is quite good.

Interwetten also has an extensive Frequently Asked Questions section just underneath the list of sports down the left of the screen.

Registration

screenshot registration

Registering for an Interwetten betting account could not be easier. You click the green “register now” button in the top right corner of the website, you will be asked for some basic details such as name, address, and date of birth.

Unfortunately, Interwetten does not accept accounts from United Kingdom residents as they are not licensed to do so.

To verify the account, you will need to send a copy of your passport, as well as what they call a consumption bill. An example of this can be a mobile phone bill or electric bill. This can either be uploaded to your account your emailed in. The consumption bill must show name and address and be a recent bill.

Financial Information

Interwetten accepts deposits in Swiss Francs, Euro, Norwegian and Swedish Crown, British Pound, Singapore Dollar, Turkish Lira and the United States Dollar.

The minimum bet allowed for singles and combination bets is €1. For system bets, the minimum bet is €3 total. For example, if your bet was doubled from three selections, each of these doubles would need to be €1 to make a total of €3. If you were betting trebles from five selections, you would have 10 bets, therefore these could be the minimum of 30 cents.

The maximum bet allowed varies from sport to sport and also depends on the type of bet.

The maximum payout is unfortunately very low. Per bet, it is €10,000. For system bets, this goes up to €30,000. However, the maximum that can be won per day for every customer is €20,000 and the weekly maximum is €100,000.

The limit for currencies other than the Euro is shown on the betting slip of the bettor.

Reliability, Integrity and Safety

It is hard to come across any customer complaints on the Internet about Interwetten. The site itself is a secure site. Under their security and responsibility section, they have the Thawte logo so presumably, they are using those for their encryption needs.

What’s missing?

The website misses the modern touch that other leading bookmakers have, it is not as visually attractive. Though this is not necessarily a bad thing. Because of this, the features mentioned earlier such as the “odds under 2.00” are very easy to find, in fact, everything is easy to find.

What Interwetten severely lacks, however, is live streaming. The fact they offer none in this day and age really sets them back, this is probably the only real negative about Interwetten.

Products and apps

Interwetten offers an app with sportsbook, casino, live casino services. The app is available both for Android and iOS platforms. The Android app can be downloaded directly from the bookmaker website, while the iOS app from the App Store.
