Manchester City Eyeing £40 Million Move for Chelsea’s Star Midfielder
Manchester City Reportedly Eyeing Move for Chelsea Midfielder Mateo Kovacic
Manchester City is said to be considering a potential transfer for Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic. The 28-year-old has reportedly piqued the interest of the reigning Premier League champions, according to a recentreport in The Telegraph
This is not the first time that City has shown interest in the Croatian international, having reportedly made an approach for him in 2018 when he was still a Real Madrid player. Now, with Kovacic’s contract at Stamford Bridge set to expire in 2024, the club appears to have renewed its interest in him.
Sources close to the situation suggest that City manager Pep Guardiola is a “big admirer” of the Chelsea star and is keen to add him to his squad. The Telegraph report further notes that Guardiola is planning to make changes to his midfield in the upcoming summer transfer window, making Kovacic an attractive option.
While Kovacic has been described as “really important” by Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel earlier in the season, the club has already begun reshuffling its midfield, having recently offloaded Jorginho to Arsenal and bringing in Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.
With City currently sitting atop the Premier League table, it remains to be seen whether they will be able to tempt Kovacic away from Chelsea, who are also vying for a top-four finish.
Nevertheless, the reported interest from City suggests that Kovacic is a player in high demand and could have a pivotal role to play in the summer transfer market.
