Naby Keita is expected to leave Liverpool as a free agent, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

According to recent reports, Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is edging closer to departing the club as a free agent. The 27-year-old Guinean international, who was acquired from RB Leipzig for a club-record fee of £52.75 million in the summer of 2018, is set to become a free agent at the end of the current campaign. Despite ongoing speculation surrounding the possibility of Keita extending his stay at Anfield, no deal has been reached to this point.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has reported that Keita is “on the verge” of leaving Liverpool in the summer, with a new contract agreement deemed unlikely. This has led to rumors of multiple clubs expressing interest in securing the services of the midfielder on a free transfer, though no specific names have been mentioned. A return to the Bundesliga has not been ruled out.

Keita has faced a challenging season, having been hampered by injury for much of the first half of the campaign. He made his first Premier League appearance on Boxing Day, and has made a total of 11 appearances across all competitions this term.

With just six months remaining on his contract, Keita is free to negotiate with clubs outside of England, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for Liverpool’s former club-record signing.
