Leeds boss Bielsa has ‘doubts’ over football’s future
Bielsa’s Leeds currently occupy 17th position in the Premier League having won just twice since the start of the season and according to the Argentinean coach, their regression is linked to the congested fixture schedule.
Leeds’ running statistics are lower this term compared to last season’s figures, however, Bielsa says that physical levels are down right across the Premier League.
“The calendar is so overcharged it doesn’t bear in mind the development of the preparation,” he said.
“That’s why I have serious doubts over the future of professional football because it is constantly commercialised and the product every time is constantly worse.”

Bielsa spoke ahead of a taxing run of games for Leeds where the Yorkshiremen play seven times in 29 days, a sequence that begins with their home game against Crystal Palace at Elland Road on Tuesday.
Leeds have another home fixture against Brentford on Sunday before they face Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool by 26 December.
Under Bielsa’s instruction, Leeds took the top flight by storm in their first season back in the big time in 2020/21, eventually finishing 9th thanks to their hard running, slick passing style of football.
