Indian farmers were arrested after they defrauded Russian punters with fake IPL
A group of men staged a large-scale theatrical spectacle that mimicked Indian Premier League matches. To begin, they located a decent field on one of the farms near Gujarat and encouraged local farmers to act as professional players. Of course, it was not free, but it does cost 400 rupees for each participant per game. People who are unfamiliar with cricket may have some reservations, but the visual quality is actually pretty good. A commentator also worked at the matches, impersonating Harsha Bhogle, the real-life star of Indian sports television. A well trained professional even broadcasted the sounds of the stands from actual Premier League matches. In general, the work was colossal. However, the farmers never made it to the final of their non-existent Premier League since the competition was halted at the playoff stage. The cops apprehended the fraudsters, arrested them, and confiscated their equipment.
